Taxi Insurance Companies
The Council and taxi insurance companies both hold the future of a potential new taxi driver in their hands. The Council regulates the taxi drivers thus assuring the safety of the common person. A continuation of the licensing process for taxi drivers is stated in the paragraphs below.
In a prior article we covered the criminal background check, the DVLA check and the medical examinations necessary to become a licensed taxi driver in the United Kingdom. We now move forward to cover the last few checks as well as touch upon the importance of dealing with the best taxi insurance company to the success of the new driver.
The Knowledge test is a practical test that involves the new driver and a Licensing Officer traversing the roadways of the bureau to be sure that the new driver can maneuver through the streets with enough knowledge and attentiveness to assure a safe ride to their patrons.
In addition to The Knowledge test, a driver needs to present two character references and they need to be from an official professional such as a Member of Parliament, a doctor, a Local Councilor, a lawyer, a Minister of Religion or someone of similar caliber. The reference should be presented in a sealed envelope. The reference must have known you for at least two years and must also be a commonwealth citizen.
If you were ever a taxi driver elsewhere, you would need to relay that information during the application process. The Council will check other authorities to find out this information. This is to make sure that you have not had your license suspended in any other municipality.
The Licensing Service would most likely be able to make their decision on your licensing worthiness in approximately six weeks and you will be able to pick up your badge. This is assuming that all of the fees and paper work have been turned in and all of the checks have been successfully completed.
From there you would begin your search for insurance through the taxi insurance companies. Once you are insured, you are well on your way to beginning your adventurous career as a taxi cab driver in the United Kingdom.
